Viam January Newsletter

2025 is the year when AI will increasingly come into the physical world, enhancing the devices and machines all around us. Here at Viam, we’re thrilled to be building the platform to make that possible, and we're so excited for what lies ahead.

Recently, our Founder and CEO Eliot Horowitz sat down with The Wall Street Journal to discuss how Viam is partnering with companies adopting AI to drive business transformation—from enhancing operations with pizza icon Sbarro to powering a great fan experience with UBS Arena and the New York Islanders.

As the year gets underway, we’re excited to help you unlock the potential of AI-driven solutions. What are you most eager to dive into this year? Reply to let us know.

As always, thank you for being part of this journey with us—check out the links, updates, and events below!

⚙️ Platform highlights

This month, we're highlighting features that provide greater flexibility and innovative ways to manage data, as well as sharing ongoing platform enhancements.

Flexibility to build with your preferred technology

Deploy and manage LoRaWAN sensors

With Viam, you can now use inexpensive, off-the-shelf hardware like a Raspberry Pi to create your own LoRaWAN gateway, then install Viam on the same Raspberry Pi to easily get the sensor’s data.

ML model support for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano
This builds on the promise of Viam to support your preferred hardware and software for interacting with the physical world, which means you can ship production-grade hardware such as NVIDIA's embedded GPUs like the Orin Nano without changing your entire application.

App Cloud API in the Go SDK
Go developers can now interact with the Viam Cloud platform using the newly added App Cloud API in the Go SDK, making it easier than ever to build powerful, cloud-connected applications.

New ways to work with data

Teleop time series widget improvements

You can now display multiple data lines from different components and data from non-sensor components (e.g., motors, boards), as well as customize the data query powering the visualization.

API for most recent data captured

You can now use the new get_latest_tabular_data API to get the most recent captured sensor data from a specific component or service’s data capture method that has been synced to the cloud.

Continued platform enhancements

Introducing Viam’s Micro-RDK
Viam’s Micro-RDK is a development kit that enables microcontrollers to operate efficiently within an edge ecosystem.

Maintenance windows for production environments
You can now schedule maintenance windows for production environments, ensuring your devices remain fully operational during business hours or peak customer usage periods.

On the era of physical intelligence

An image of the following quote from WIRED: If 2023 was the year of text-to-image and 2024 was text-to-video, then 2025 will mark the era of physical intelligence, with a new generation of devices—not only robots, but also anything from power grids to smart homes—that can interpret what we’re telling them and execute tasks in the real world.if 2023 was the year of text-to-image and 2024 w
